2018 New York Festivals: GMA Network Bags 8 Awards, ABS CBN Wins 3

It was another successful year for Filipinos at the New York Film & TV Festivals 2018. The Philippines two biggest networks won 11 awards in all, including two gold medals.

GMA bagged the gold medal for ‘Hawla The Untold Story of the Village Monster’, a documentary on Reel Time about a woman kept in a cage by her family beause of her mental illness. Meanwhile, ABS CBN won gold for ‘Di Ka Pasisiil’,  a documentary on the Marawi seige.

Meanwhile, multi-awarded Kapuso journalist Jessica Soho won a Bronze Medal for the Best News Anchor category for State of the Nation. Other winners from GMA Network are:

Silver Wold Medal for ‘Alaala’, a docudrama on Martial Law starring Alden Richards, Rocco Nacina and Gina Alajar. It was directed by Adolfo Alix, Jr.; 
Silver World Medal in the Human Concerns category for ‘Gutom’, a documentary on Reel Time;
Bronze World Medal for Brigada: Combat Camera Team;
Bronze World Medal for Reporter’s Notebook: Yapak sa Pusod ng Dagat;
Bronze World Medal for Front Row: Batang Bomba;
Bronze World Medal for director Ignacio for the indie film ‘Area’ which starred AiAi Delas Alas.

GMA Network also received Finalist Certificates for I-Witness: Silang Kinalimutan (The Forgotten; I-Witness: Sundalong Aso (Soldiers with Paws); Art Direction: Promotion/Open & IDs: Colorful Summer (GMA-7); for State of the Nation with Jessica Soho (GMA-7).

Meanwhile, aside from the gold medal for ‘Di Ka Pasisiil’, ABS CBN also received a Silver Medal for cinematography for DocuCentral’s “Local Legends: Bandurria”, and a Bronze World Medal in the Station/Image Promotion category for ABS-CBN’s Creative Communications Management’s “To Love and To Serve” campaign.
