Powerful 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Sarangani, No Tsunami Alert

A strong earthquake struck Sarangani Saturday morning, August 5. The 5.9 magnitude Sarangani earthquake struck at 8:30 AM according to the report of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In its earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said that quake was traced to an area eight kilometers west of Malapatan, Sarangani, with a depth of 74 km. No tsunami warning has been issued.

The reported instensities are as follows:

Intensity V – Malapatan and Alabel, Sarangani; General Santos City
Intensity IV – Digos City; Kiamba, Sarangani
Intensity III – Davao City and Lebak, Sultan Kudarat

As of this writing, no reports of damage to property no injuries have been received by the authorities. Aftershocks are expected, according to Phivolcs.
