BAGYONG BASYANG Update: #BasyangPH Weakens to Tropical Depression

A tropical storm entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Sunday night. Tropical Storm ‘Basyang’, aka Bagyong Basyang, is now east of Surigao del Sur and is expected to make landfall on Tuesday morning.

Bagyong Basyang is forecast to bring scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains will prevail over the eastern section of Visayas and of Mindanao beginning Tuesday. Landfall is expected in the Caraga Region.

According to the latest update by PAGASA on Basyang (international name: Sanba) on Sunday night,  the center of tropical storm was estimated at 870 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, with maximum sustained winds of up to 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. Bagyong Basyang is forecast to move West Northwest at 27 kph.

UPDATE February 13, Tuesday: After making landfall in Surigao del Sur early Tuesday morning, #BasyangPH has slightly weakened as it crossed the Northern Mindanao and the southern Visayas region.

According to PAGASA, at 2:00 PM the Tropical Depression Basyang was estimated at 60 kilometers south of Maasin City in Southern Leyte, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness of 80 kph. Bagyong Basyang was moving west northwest at 27 kph.

Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains will prevail in the next 24 hours over Palawan and Visayas. Meanwhile, scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains is expected over Bicol Region, Mindanao, and the rest of MIMAROPA.

Signal #1 is now raised over the following areas: Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo groups of islands, Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Bohol, Cebu, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, southern section of Samar, and southern section of Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, northern section of Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, and northern section of Zamboanga del Norte.

#BasyangPH is forecast to exit PAR by Thursday.
