It’s full speed ahead for the Duterte administration’s ‘Build, Build, Build’ program for 2018. Seventy-six infrastructure projects costing around P1.1 trillion are lined up for 2018 which, in turn, is projected to produced around 1.7 million jobs by 2022.

‘Build, Build, Build’ is the flagship infrastructure program of the current government meant to address the Philippines’ infrastructure deficiency, and the main reason for the ambitious Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act (TRAIN).

Most of the revenues from TRAIN will be spent on infrastructure projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Department of Transportation (DoTr).

The list of Build, Build, Build projects for 2018 is as follows:

  • 6 airports
  • 9 railways
  • 3 bus rapid transits
  • 32 roads and bridges
  • 4 seaports
  • 4 energy facilities
  • 10 water resource projects
  • 5 flood control facilities
  • 3 redevelopment programs

According to the Department of Finance, the funds for these infrastructure projects will be money well-spent as studies have shown that such investments yield more in terms of peso value in the long term.

“With economic studies showing that every peso invested in infrastructure yields two pesos and four centavos in economic activity, we can expect this stimulus to cause a surge in our growth,” said DOF undersecretary Grace Karen Singson.

Singson added, that with continuous funding from TRAIN coupled with “prudent fiscal management, and declining debt service payments”, ‘Build, Build, Build’ will be a success for the Duterte administration.

And the 76 infrastructure projects are just the start for the government as more improvement and development plans are in the pipeline. By the end of his term, President Duterte will have spent around P8.04 trillion for infrastructure projects ‘for the people’.
