Another Child Dies After Hospital Nurses Turn Away Patient for Lack of Money

No deposit, no treatment. Isn’t this illegal? But that didn’t seem to deter nurses at a Cavite hospital who turned away a child fighting for its life because his mother didn’t have money for a deposit. This according to a Facebook post the dead child aunt who alleges that the nurses at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Hospital in Naic, Cavite referred them to a public hospital though the boy was already near death.

San Lorenzo Ruiz Hospital no deposit

According to the Facebook post of a certain¬†Eyah Ortsac, who claims to be the aunt of the dead child, the nurses at San Lorenzo Ruiz Hospital in Naic, Cavite were having fun eating ice cream when her sister arrived with her son. But instead to administering emergency treatment, one male nurse asked her if she had money for the boy’s hospital bills. When sh said she had none, the mother was told to bring her son to a public hospital in Trece Martirez.

Another nurse allegedly noticed that the boy was already pale and dehydrated yet did nothing. Instead, she insisted on referring the patient to the public hospital. The boy died on the way to Trece Martirez.

Refusing treatment to patients in emergency situations is illegal in the Philippines. Earlier this year, President Rodrigo Duterte signed a law that that can take away the license of any hospital or medical facility if it refuses treatment to patients without a deposit. Yet these nurses and the San Lorenzo Ruiz Hospital seem to be ignorant of this law.
