The domestic helper was coming home after working for four years in Abu Dhabi and took an Etihad flight to Jakarta. However, four hours into the flight, the Indonesian domestic helper, identified only as Hani, started bleeding and became very weak.

The 37-year old worker was immediately transferred from economy to business class and given emergency medical attention. The pilot then decided to divert to  Bangkok where she was offloaded and brought to hospital. The Etihad flight then continued to Jakarta without her.

However, Etihad cleaning crew found the dead baby inside the toilet. It was wrapped in a plastic bag and ‘dumped’ inside one of the drawers.

Meanwhile, Hani took another flight home to Jakarta where she was immediately arrested by police.

The cause of death is yet unknown. An autopsy will determine if the full-term baby died during childbirth or if it was killed after.

Millions of women work as domestic helpers around the world, many of whom are from the Philippines and Indonesia.
