“I know it seems like a giant step that no one was expecting, but that is what makes this one of the greatest announcements of my life,” Kobe said in the caption to his video announcement

“Although I am a Bluejay & Matador at heart and thank Coach Theus and the CUSN staff for everything…it’s time for me to shape my own destiny in an even bigger wave,” Paras added.

Asked for comments on his son’s decision, Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) legend Benjie Paras said Kobe has his support.

“My son is taking one of the hardest steps in his journey to date and embracing full manhood. Kobe was brave enough to leave home and forge his way in the United States when he attended Cathedral High School & Middlebrooks Academy. He has fought through continuous adversity at the collegiate level and now he is continuing to challenge himself with this decision.”
