Fire fighters are having a hard time battling the fire at Ayala mall in Cebu. Based on the most recent photos posted online, thick black smoke continues to come out of the Metro Gaisano building and fire fighters cannot enter it to put out the blaze.

According to news reports, the fire struck just before 10 PM. As of this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.

This is the second fire to strike a mall in the southern Philippines in a span of two weeks. Just before Christmas, a blaze destroyed the NCCC Mall in Davao City. That fire started on the third floor of the mall and quickly spread to adjacent floors.

Thirty-eight perished in the NCCC Mall fire, mostly call center employees on the top floor who were trapped by the blaze.

As of this writing, it is still unknown if there are missing persons or casualties in the Ayala Cebu fire. Customers and employees were evacuated from the building earlier.

Latest reports say authorities have raised the fire alarm to Task Force Alpha.
