GLOBE, SMART, SUN Prepaid Load Get 1 Year Expiration Starting January 2018

Your prepaid load will now last one year! That’s right, Globe, Smart and Sun prepaid load will have a 1 year expiration date starting January 1, 2018 according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Prepaid load expiration validity

Good news to prepaid users: the validity / expiration of prepaid load is now 1 year!

This is excellent news to prepaid users who have long complained why their load have to expire. Many have lost large sums of unused prepaid load in the process. But that will all stop soon after a joint memorandum circular has been signed by the DTI, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) requiring all telcos to comply with the order.

The DTI said the government initially wanted no expiration date for prepaid load but admitted their 1-year order is a compromise with the telcos.

“Here we came up with a happy compromise in balancing the interest of the consumers and the telcos. This is DTI’s initiative and we supported this,” said DICT officer in charge Eliseo Rio Jr. during the press briefing on Thursday.

“Originally, the government wanted to have no expiration. But of course, we are looking for what is feasible,” said DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez.

The 1-year validity of prepaid load covers ANY amount. However, load purchased in connection with “promotions and other services with a specific period of use, as approved by DTI and NTC” is not covered.
