Jodie Whittaker is the new ‘Doctor Who’. BBC revealed its first female Doctor tonight with short clip of ‘Doctor Who’ walking through a forest and revealing her face at the last minute. Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor and the first women to play the role since its premiere in 1963.

BBC made the big reveal right after the Wimbledon Men’s Singles final between Roger Federer and Marin Cilic. In the teaser video, the new ‘Doctor Who’ was wearing a long hooded coat that hid her face. But just as the clip was about to end, Jodie Whittaker removed her hood to reveal the much-anticipated identity of the 13th Doctor.

“As an actor, as a human, as someone who wants to continually push themselves and challenge themselves, and not be boxed in by what you’re told you can and can’t be. It feels incredible,” Whittaker said of her new role.

“This is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that’s exciting about change. The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one.”
