According to balikbayan Ramon Segarra, there was a delay at the baggage carousel at NAIA Terminal 1 when he arrived on Friday. When his luggage finally emerged, he noticed that the zipper of his suitcase was torn prompting him to make a complaint with NAIA personnel. However, Segarra was assured that nothing was taken from his luggage after it was weighed and its weighed matched its pre-arrival weight.

However, according to the report of GMA News, the balikbayan found some items missing from his luggage when he checked it upon arriving home. Perfumes, shoes and other pasalubong items were allegedly missing.

This is the latest incident of luggage theft at the country’s international airport. Earlier this year, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced that it would no longer renew the contract of ground handler Miascor Groundhandling Corporation after similar luggage theft incidents were reported.

Likewise, President Rodrigo Duterte said he would fire airport officials if another such incident occurred.
