Miss Universe 2018 to be Held in the Philippines Again this November if…

Miss Universe 2018 will be held this November and the Philippines may host the pageant again. The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) wants the 67th Miss Universe to be held in Manila but if and only if President Duterte gives his approval.

It will be recalled that the 2016 edition of the pageant was held in Manila in January last year. It was so successful that MUO wanted the 2017 edition to be in the Philippines again. However, President Rodrigo Duterte did not approve it as it would coincide with the country’s hosting of the ASEAN Summit last November.

“Kinausap na kami [ng MUO] na gusto nila sa atin…” revealed Department of Tourism (DOT) secretary Wanda Teo in an interview. “Pero nung kinausap ko si Presidente, sabi niya, ‘You know what, may ASEAN tayo.'”

“November din ang ASEAN, November din ang Miss Universe, baka daw mahihirapan,” Teo added.

But, according to the DOT chief, there are no big events in the country for 2018 so the president may just approve the new proposal by MUO.

“So, baka next year [2018]. Wala namang event that big, I think naman baka papayag si Presidente.”

If it will push through, the pageant will be wholly financed by the private sector according to Duterte’s orders. The president said the government is not willing to spend for the next Miss Universe pageant just like lat time. But this is no problem, said Wanda Teo, who revealed that they have already spoken to some possible sponsors who are willing to finance the pageant.

“Marami na rin kaming na-approach and willing naman,” said Teo.
