Missing Pinay OFW Found Dead Inside Cabinet After Taiwan Earthquake

Missing overseas Filipino worker Melody Castro Albano has been found dead after the earthquake in Taiwan. Albano’s body was found inside the a cabinet by rescuers. The Pinay OFW is among the 10 death from the devastating earthquake.

Melody Castro Albano was first reported missing early Wednesday when her whereabouts could not be established hours after the 6.4 magnitude quake. Manila Economic Cultural Office (MECO) chief Angelito Banayo said in an interview aired on TV Patrol Wednesday night that they have been trying to contact Castro’s mobile phone but she has not been answering. The Philippine official hoped Melody was still alive. But Thursday afternoon, Albano’s body was finally located.

Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) director, Tony Tsai, said Melody must have hidden inside the wooden cabinet when the earthquake began. However, as their building started to collapse, the OFW was crushed.

“She was hiding in a closet and when the earthquake occurred, the building collapsed, she was—the building (collapsed) over her body,” said Tsai. “When she was found, she was dead in the closet.”

Lito Banayo told DZBB on Thursday afternoon that Philippine officials have already gone of Hualien to take to local authorities for the arrangements for Albano’s body.

Fifty people remain missing two days after the quake. Officials and rescuers believe they are all inside the collapsed buildings. Some may still be alive.
