Proposed Odd-Even Scheme on EDSA to Reduce Traffic by 60% This Christmas

A new odd-even scheme should be implemented on EDSA this Christmas season. This would reduce traffic on EDSA by as much as 60 percent during the holiday rush. This is the proposal of a lawmaker to the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

According to Rep. Bingbong Crisologo, the odd-even scheme is needed this holiday season as history has shown us that Metro Manila’s daily traffic becomes doubly worse with everybody busy with holiday errands and parties. It would be good to make it Metro Manila-wide but Crisologo said even only on EDSA, the odd-even traffic scheme would already make a great impact.

“I would prefer na three times a week huwag nang lumabas kaysa sa once a week lang na ‘di ako allowed tapos ‘yung sasakyan ko traffic…I’ve been proposing it ever since, kahit EDSA lang ho, i-odd natin kahit EDSA lang,” said Crisologo as quoted by GMA News.

But Metro Manila mayors are opposed to this. It was already submitted for their consideration a couple of months ago during the Metro Manila Council (MMC) meeting but, according to MMDA assistant general manager for planning Jojo Garcia, the proposal was immediately shot down by the mayors.

Nevertheless, MMDA chairman Danilo Lim said he will again bring the proposal to the council in their upcoming meeting.

With less than a month to go before Christmas, traffic in the metropolis is getting heavier by the day. It is expected to get even worse when December sets in.
