Pinay Nanny Gets House & Lot from UAE Employer for Her Dedication & Hard Work

This is an inspiring story about a Filipina nanny who did her job well and was rewarded generously. Dina Tenerife Celo, a nanny in Abu Dhabi, received a house and lot from her employer in exchange for her dedication and years of service.

In October 2017, Dina got the surprise of her life when her UAE employer, Melissa McPike, gave her Dh23,000 (approximately P320,000) to buy a parcel of land in her hometown in Camarines Sur. McPike told her she knew Dina has very little saving because she would send all her salary to her family back home. In addition, Dina’s employer also said the she would help her build her dream house on the lot she would purchase.

Dina Tenerife Celo was stunned. She told The Filipino Times Online that she totally didn’t expect the generosity of her employer.

Dina immediately bought a parcel of land in her hometown for her only son Ryan. And on January 18, Dina will be coming home with one of McPike’s sons, whom Dina took care of when he was 6 years old and is now a pilot, to plan the construction of her dream house.

Dina Tenerife Celo’s journey as an OFW started in 1994. She took a job in Saudi Arabia but it did not turn out well. The dejected OFW went back home to the Philippines but decided to try her luck again in 1998. That was when she was hired as a domestic helper for Melissa McPike.

Aside from being a household helper, Celo also took care of McPike’s two young boys, Saeed, 6 years old, and Saif, 4. Dina’s contract with McPike ended after two years and she left, opting to try her luck in other jobs in the United Arab Emirates. Over the next 14 years, the OFW worked as domestic helper, cashier and waitress. But she maintained her communication with McPike and her family.

After getting sick, Dina Tenerife Celo thought her journey in the UAE was about to end and she was resigned to going back home to the Philippines. But, to her surprise, Melissa McPike took her back in. And that is where she has been since.

“Madam Missa, maraming maraming salamat sa lahat ng ibinigay mo sa akin… sa mabuting pakikitungo sa akin,” she said. “Kay Saeed na ngayon ay piloto na at kay Saif, maraming salamat sa pagiging mabuting mga alaga. Hindi ko makakalimutan itong niregalo niyo sa akin.”

Oftentimes, we hear horror stories about overseas Filipino workers – some beaten up by their employers, others abused and some even losing their lives. But the story of Dina Tenerife Celo proves that there are also many ‘happy endings’ for OFWs. With luck, dedication and hard work, some OFWs end up like Dine Tenerife Celo.
