PLDT internet problem

Poor PLDT internet speed due to damaged fiber optic cables.

In a statement released Thursday, PLDT said their fiber optic transmission cables were damaged by a third party causing poor internet service in affected areas. PLDT did not mention when the damage was incurred nor did they say who was responsible for the damage. However, some social media posts point to Meralco’s civil works as the culprit.

PLDT internet service advisory

This is a triple whammy for the affected consumers. Philippine internet speeds were already way below international standards to begin with. Then, a couple of weeks back, service got even slower when undersea cables near Hong Kong were damaged by the strong typhoon thereat affecting services in Southeast Asia including the Philippines. Now, it even got worse!

Some friends who are PLDT internet subscribers reported having no internet at all since 1:00 AM Thursday. The service is gradually being restored though.
