‘1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” wrote Julia Louis Dreyfus on Twitter, and used the opportunity to highlight the need for universal healthcare.

“The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.”

Though Dreyfus provided no details of her condition, HBO, producer of ‘Veep’ provided the heads up. HBO revealed that the actress was diagnosed a day after the 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards where she won her sixth Best Actress in a Comedy for ‘Veep’.

The comedy series is ending after this season but HBO said the decision to end the series does not have anything to do with Dreyfus’ health.
