Several areas have already declared #Walangpasok (class suspension) for Dec. 4 due to the jeepney strike.

PISTON called for the nationwide transport strike on December 4 and 5 as a continuation of their resistance to the jeepney modernization program which they said will only bring more burden to jeepney drivers. Despite government assurances that loans and financial assistance will be extended to them, jeepney groups have opposed what they are calling the ‘phase-out of jeepneys’ by the Duterte administration.

Based on past transport strikes, hundreds of thousands of commuters will be stranded. Though the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and other government agencies are pooling their resources to soften the impact of the jeepney strike, these are not enough.

This early, class suspensions have already been announced in the following areas:

Albay Province – all levels, public and private
Guagua, Pampanga – all levels, public and private (December 4 and 5)
