#WalangPasok January 4, 5, 9, 10 & 16, 2017: Special Holidays in Selected Areas

A number of special holidays were declared this January in several areas. As a result, classes and/or work in offices are cancelled (#WalangPasok) in the respected areas, one of which is Manila on January 9 due to the feast of the Black Nazarene.


Classes and work are cancelled in several areas this month. #WalangPasok.

Manila mayor Joseph ‘Erap’ Estrada cancelled classes in all levels, public and private, as well as work at the city hall, on January 9, 2017. It is the feast day of the Black Nazarene and thousands are expected to join the almost-24-hour procession, the traslacion, from the Quirino Grandstand to the Quiapo Church.

On Wednesday, the official route of Traslacion 2018 was released by organizers with minor changes from last year’s procession. Due to security concerns, the traslacion of the Black Nazarene will be avoiding Lagusnilad.

Meanwhile, Malacanang declared special holidays in several areas on January 4, 5, 10 and 16 by virtue of Proclamation Nos. 379, 387, 389 and 390, respectively:

  • #WalangPasok on January 4 in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro in commemoration of 113th founding anniversary;
  • #WalangPasok on January 5 in in Bauang, La Union in commemoration of the Baggak Festival Bauang Founding Anniversary;
  • #WalangPasok on January 10 in Koronadal City in commemoration of its 78th Founding Anniversary and 18th Hinugyaw Festival;
  • #WalangPasok on January 16 in Batangas City in celebration of its fiesta.
