#WalangPasok Advisory for Nov. 23, 24 & 27 is FAKE News – DepEd

Thousands of students were celebrating today after news of another #walangpasok long weekend this week. According to the viral social media announcement, classes have been cancelled on November 23, 24 & 27. This was quickly denied by the Department of Education (DepEd).

This time, the #walangpasok advisory turned out to be fake!

“The Department of Education (DepEd) has not made any announcement regarding the suspension of classes on November 23, 24, and 27 being circulated by Facebook page ‘Walang Pasok Advisory,’ nor is it associated with the page in any way,” the DepEd said in a statement as quoted by GMA News.

The Facebook posts have since been deleted but not before causing short-lived celebrations for thousands of students who believed the false #Walangpasok advisory.

“DepEd encourages the public to be more vigilant against fake news and half-truths, and be more discerning of information that they accept and disseminate,” the department’s statement continued.

It also encouraged the public to be more vigilant against the proliferation of false stories on the Internet. Likewise, DepEd said the public should only rely on official statements and advisories posted in its official website and social media account: www.deped.gov.ph, Facebook DepEd Philippines and Twitter @DepEd_PH.

“The Department further advises the public to get verified information and announcements of the agency on the official website, www.deped.gov.ph, official Facebook page DepEd Philippines, and official Twitter account DepEd_PH.”
