A number of female overseas Filipino workers (OFW) were arrested and detained in Saudi Arabia. The OFWs were arrested after their Halloween party was raided by Saudi police. Non-Islamic sanctioned events are prohibited in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the nineteen Filipina OFWs were rounded up on Saturday, along with several males of different nationalities, at a party organized by the latter. The police received a complaint from neighbors near the venue in Riyadh about noise and partying and police acted on the complaint.

Aside from no-Islamic sanctioned events, it is also prohibited for men and women to mingle at parties and gatherings.

DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III added that, based on their information, the Filipinas did not organize the Halloween party. They were just invited to the event.

Ngayon, maingay yata, kantahan, alam mo naman ‘yung party, and bawal ‘yan. Ganoon, so may nagreklamo sa pulis, so dumating ang pulis, about attendinghinuli sila at dinetain sila ngayon,” said Bello, as quoted by ABS CBN News.
