2nd Earthquake Strikes PH in 24 Hours: Surigao Quake at 5.1 Magnitude

Six hours after the earthquake in Davao Oriental, another quake struck the Philippines in Surigao del Norte. The Surigao quake measured 5.1 in magnitude, according to the Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

At 10:32 PM Sunday, the earthquake was traced to an area near Burgos in Surigao del Norte. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 14 kilometers according to the data provided by Phivolcs.

It was felt at Intensity IV in the Surigao del Norte towns of Burgos, Pilar, and Dapa; at Intensity III in Dinagat and San Jose in the Dinagat Islands; and Intensity II in Surigao City and Socorro, both also in Surigao del Norte.

So far, no aftershocks nor damage to property has been reported.

Last friday, a strong 6.5 magnitude earthquake rocked the island of Java in Indonesia.
