5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Nasugbu, Batangas, Aftershocks Expected

A strong earthquake rocked Batangas province midday Tuesday, July 3. Initially reported as 5.5 in magnitude, the earthquake was later downgraded to 5.2 by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

According to the Phivolcs website, the earthquake was traced to 25 kilometers off Nasugbu at a depth of 116 kilometers. It struck at 12:25 Pm and was tectonic in origin.

The earthquake was felt strongest at Intensity IV in Lubang and Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro while it was Intesity III in Buco, Talisay, Tumaway and Calatagan, Batangas; Quezon City; Clark, Pampanga; Mandaluyong City; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Looc and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro; and Tanza and Maragondon, Cavite.

Philvocs said it was Intensity II in Manila City; Plaridel, Obando & Malolos, Bulacan; Parañaque City.
