6.0 Earthquake in Catanduanes Cracked Floor of House in Camarines Sur

The 6.0 magnitude earthquake off Catanduanes was one of the strongest earthquakes in the country in recent years. It was felt strongest in parts of Sorsogon and Legaspi City, and as far as Bulacan and Pampanga.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the Catanduanes earthquake struck at 2:19 PM local time, 46 kilometers northwest of Pandan at a depth of 21 kilometers. Despite striking at sea, no tsunami warning has been issued and Philvocs said it did not expect any major damage nor casualties from the strong tremor.

Some minor damage have been reported though. In Mantalisay, Linmanan, Camarines Sur, the floor of a house suffered cracks due to the earthquake. Photos posted on social media by Kaye Tan showed cracks on their floor.

“Akala ko nahihilo lang ako, pero lindol na pala omg 😨 Pagbalik namin eto na 😱😵😨 Sabi samin, kasama daw pala kase bahay namin dito sa faultline 😨 Be safe everyone! 😨,” wrote Tan in the caption.

Phivolcs said Intensity 4 was felt in Irosin, Sorsogon and Legazpi City and Ligao, Albay, and in Iriga City, Jose Panganiban in Camarines Norte and Alabat in Quezon.

Meanwhile, it was Intensity 3 in Guinayangan, Lopez and Infanta towns in Quezon; Sorsogon City and Marikina City. Intensity 2 was felt in Lucban, Quezon; Quezon City, Masbate, Masbate; Mauban, Quezon; Catbalogan, Samar; Cabanatuan City and Palo, Leyte.

Intensity 1 was felt in Tagaytay City; Lucena City and Dolores town in Quezon; Malabon City; Sal Ildefonso, Bulacan and Guagua in Pampanga.
