Anthony Bourdain was found unresponsive by his friend, Eric Ripert, on Friday morning. Efforts to revive him failed. The celebrity chef was staying at a small hotel in Kaysersberg, France when he committed suicide. He was there to film scenes for his CNN food and travel show, Parts Unknown.

French authorities have ruled his death as a suicide after failing to find signs of struggle or foul play, according to Mail Online. A toxicology test is underway to determine if Bourdain, who had a history of substance abuse many years ago, had drugs or alcohol in his system.

Bourdain’s death has shocked the world. Celebrities, colleagues and fans of his work have taken to social media to pay tribute to the man they admired, and who had inspired them in many ways.

I am beyond devastated. My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine.’
