BAGYONG CALOY Update: Tropical Storm Caloy Exits PAR, Spares Holy Week

A tropical depression may yet dampen Holy Week vacationers. Bagyong Caloy is still outside the Philippines but growing stronger. Tropical Depression Caloy is expected to intensify further into a tropical storm as it moves toward the Bicol region.

According to the latest update on Bagyong Caloy by PAGASA, the tropical depression was estimated based on all available data at 1,740 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur at 10:00 AM Sunday, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 65/kph. Caloy is moving west northwest at 25 kph.

PAGASA said Bagyong Caloy is not expected to make landfall as it will have a curving path as it skirts the eastern waters of Samar and Bicol. But it is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm by Tuesday.

UPDATE March 28: Bagyong Caloy has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). In the latest update of PAGASA on Tropical Storm Caloy, the weather bureau said the storm was spotted 1,020 km East Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur and is forecast to move north and then northeast as it continues to move away.

Earlier, PAGASA said #CaloyPH was not expected to make landfall. The tropical storm entered PAR early Holy Tuesday.
