‘Bagyong Florita’ UPDATE: #FloritaPH Exits PAR Today But will Enhance Habagat

A new storm may be brewing east of Luzon. The low pressure area (LPA) is already inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and may intensify into the country’s next cyclone. If it does, the storm will be named #FloritaPH, or Bagyong Florita.

UPDATE July 1: According to the latest advice from PAGASA, Bagyong Florita was 700 kilometers east-northeast of Basco, Batanes at 3:00 AM Sunday, packing maximum winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

#FloritaPH is moving northwest at 12 kph and is forecast to exit PAR this afternoon.

According to PAGASA’s forecast, Bagyong Florita is not expected to make landfall but the storm will enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat) and bring occasional rains to extreme northern Luzon

#FloritaPH Forecast Positions:

  • 695 kms east-northeast of Basco, Batanes by Saturday evening, and
  • 975 kms north-northeast of Basco, Batanes, and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, by Sunday evening.

No storm signals have been raised.
