LATEST Bagyong Paeng Forecast Update: Typhoon #PaengPH Headed for Japan

Just days after the exit of Typhoon Ompong, a new storm is approaching the Philippines again. To be called #PaengPH, or Bagyong Paeng, once it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) the new cyclone is poised to follow the track of #OmpongPH.

SCROLL DOWN FOR LATEST UPDATES According to PAGASA, the new cyclone is still in the Pacific near Guam, or around 2000 kilometers away. But the potential #PaengPH is forecast to enter the PAR on Friday evening or Saturday morning.

PAGASA meteorologist Gener Quitlong said Bagyong Paeng is not expected to make landfall as it will skirt Batanes. However, the storm is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat).

UPDATE September 21: The latest update on #PaengPH comes from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the US. Earlier today, JTWC said the cyclone which will be named ‘Paeng’ when it enters PAR is now a tropical depression.

TD 28W is still in the vicinity of Guam but moving west northwest. It will enter PAR but NO LANDFALL. JTWC released this graphic of #PaengPH’s forecast track.

UPDATE September 28: Typhoon #PaengPH maintained its strength as it moved north nothwestward. PaengPh is forecast to exit PAR on Saturday morning, according to PAGASA’s latest bulletin.

As of 10:00 PM of Friday, September 28, Typhoon PaengPH was located 645 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes. It had maximum sustained winds of up to 160 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 195 km/h.

Meanwhile, approaching the Philippines from the Pacific. Already a tropical depression, it will be named ‘Queenie’ or QueeniePH when it enters PAR on Tuesday.
