Another abused overseas Filipino worker (OFW) has come forward to tell her tale of woe. Recruited as an English teacher in China, the OFW was made to work as a domestic helper instead. Adding insult to injury, she was also abused by her Chinese employer.

The OFW found the teaching job online. Advertised as an ‘English teacher’ in China, the online advertisement promised a monthly salary of around P34,000. Furthermore, there was no placement fee and processing of applications would be fast.

The OFW immediately applied and, within a month, she was able to leave for China together with other Pinays. But, upon arrival in Beijing, they sensed that something was wrong.

The OFWs were fed with answers should Chinese authorities ask questions about their employment. In addition, they were asked to sign a document in Chinese they did not understand. After this, the OFW was taken to her employer’s residence and that was when her fears were confirmed. She wasn’t going to be an English teacher but a maid!

In the report by GMA News, the OFW said her employer would ask her to work non-stop and hide food from her. And, once, she was ordered to clean the outside the window of their high-rise apartment.

The POEA has already been alerted of the OFW’s situation and the modus of the recruitment agency. And investigation in ongoing.
