Body of Fil-Am Raymond Cabalfin Jr Found 18 Days After River Accident

The body of a California teen swept away by the American River 18 days ago has been found. Filipino-American Raymond Cabalfin Jr., 19, leapt into the raging river after a hike on May 11. He had not been seen since.

Raymond Cabalfin Jr. and some friends were hiking in the Lake Clementine Trail on May 11 when the accident happened. Video showed Cabalfin and a female friend jumping into the American River. She was able to climb out of the water but the young Filipino-American was seen calling for help as the raging river pulled him away.

Search teams were organized to look for the missing hiker to no avail.

The body was found by a hiker some 3 miles downstream from where Cabalfin disappeared. It is already in an advanced stage of decomposition and, according to the Sacramento Bee, even his family would not be able to identify him. It would be up to coroner to establish its identity.
