Bong Revilla is accused of plundering the government of P224.5 million by diverting his pork barrel funds to fake foundations created by Janet Napoles for such purposes. He is the first of the three senators accused of plunder to be up for decision by the court. The cases of two others, Jinggoy Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile, are still pending at the Sandiganbayan.

But it is only Revilla who remains detained. Estrada has been granted bail while Enrile was released for humanitarian reason because of his alleged failing health.

All three are running for reelection in the Senate in 2019.
