Court of Appeals DENIES Actor Dennis Roldan Appeal vs Kidnapping Conviction

Former congressman and actor Dennis Roldan is guilty of kidnapping beyond reasonable doubt. This as the Court of Appeals denied Roldan’s appeal to overturn the regional trial court verdict on his kidnapping case in 2014.

In its ruling, the Court of Appeals said Dennis Roldan, Mitchell Gumabao in real life, failed to find any error in the ruling of the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 159.

“This Court agrees with the court a quo that the prosecution was able to prove beyond reasonable doubt the guilt of the accused through testimonial and documentary evidence,” said the CA ruling.

“Appellant merely tried to fault the court a quo for considering only certain pieces of evidence which were found by this Court to be competent evidence while rejecting some parts thereof,” the court said.

The former actor, the father of beauty queen Michele Gumabao and young actor Marco Gumabao, was sentenced to reclusion perpertua in 2014 for the kidnapping of a Filipino-Chinese boy in 2005. His conviction was by virtue of testimonies by the boy, who was eventually rescued by the Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response (PACER), and PACER operatives.

State witness Albert Pagdanganan also admitted kidnapping the boy upon the instructions of Roldan.
