LOOK Shoppers Mobbed President Duterte for Selfies at Greenbelt 5

Cheers rang out at Greenbelt 5 Saturday evening as a surprise visitor came in. President Rodrigo Duterte walked in unannounced at Greenbelt 5 on his way home from the Asian Development Bank (ABD) event and the usual quiet and laid back atmosphere at the mall was broken.

Based on social media posts, Duterte went to the Jaeger LeCoultre Swiss watch shop surrounded by PSG personnel. Spotted accompanying him was Bong Go, Special Assistant to the President. It is not known if Duterte bought something inside the shop or if he just took a look at some of the merchandise.

Meanwhile, as he was inside the shop, a crowd of shoppers were already gathered outside, some even on the nearby escalator, taking photos and videos of the president. And, when he came out, that was when the commotion started.

Armed with their mobile phones, shoppers jostled to take a better shot of Duterte, or better yet, snag a selfie. Some were lucky enough to get their selfie while a mother was able to pose for a shot with the president carrying her baby.

Duterte remains popular with the majority of Filipinos two years after being voted into power. Despite criticism of his illegal drugs campaign, human rights concerns, and increased taxes, many Filipinos seem to agree with what he is doing as evidenced by the results of a recent survey.

According the Social Weather Stations (SWS), the president still enjoys a ‘very good’ net trust rating of +65, although this was down from +75 six months ago.
