LOOK New Tourism Sec. Berna Romulo-Puyat Takes Oath Before Duterte

On Sunday, President Rodrigo Duterte swore in Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, the new secretary of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Malacanang. Berna Romulo-Puyat was accompanied by her parents, former senator Alberto Romulo and his wife, Lovely. Berna’s daughter was also present.

Duterte then hosted a private dinner for the new DOT secretary, her family and several guests at Malacanang. 

Romulo-Puyat was appointed to the position after the resignation of Wanda Tulfo Teo last week amid a controversy involving a P60 million TV ad deal between the DOT and PTV-4. The Commission on Audit (COA) flagged the deal because the recipient of the ad was block-timer Bitag Multimedia Unlimited Inc., a production company owned by Teo’s brother, Ben Tulfo.

The new DOT secretary has been in public service since the time of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Romulo-Puyat was then a consultant under the Presidential Management Staff. Ten, under President Noynoy Aquino, Bernadette Romulo-Puyat was Undersecretary for Special Concerns at the Department of Agriculture.
