In a statement issued Wednesday, The Big Bang Theory creators and producers Warner Bros. TV, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions announced the end of the series. The Big Bang Theory is going out with a bang, they said.

“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close,” said their joint statement.

The Big Bang Theory premiered in 2007 to mild success, but gradually gained momentum until it became the top-rating comedy series that it is now.

Viewers tuned in week after week to watch the quirkiness of  Sheldon Cooper and his happy bunch of nerds. Though still nerds after twelve years, the four Caltech scientists – Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj, have gone out of their comfort zones and developed friendships outside of their group and relationships with the opposite sex.

Now married, except Raj, fans await how season 12 will unfold and how the series will end.
