Father of Baby Left in Car at Metrowalk Denies Child was ‘Abandoned’ in SUV

As netizens continue to condemn the parent of the baby apparently left in a car at Metrowalk, the father of the child has broken his silence.

In an interview with GMA News, the father of the baby, who refused to be interviewed on cam, denied netizens’ accusations that they ‘abandoned’ their son in the car. He also insists the boy was not left in the car for a long time.

According to the baby’s father, he and his wife, who manage a restaurant in the area, they arrived at around 2:00 AM. The baby was asleep at the time so they decided to leave him in the car so as not to disturb his sleep.

After around five minutes sitting in the restaurant, the guard came informing them that the baby was already awake. They then took the boy to the restaurant.

At around 4:00 AM, the baby was again sleepy so his wife took him to their car. he said they made sure not to totally close the car’s window so that there would be ventilation.

“Maya-maya ‘andyan na naman ‘yung guwardya. Sabi nung guwardya gising daw ‘yung bata tapos may nagwawala na raw dun. Napi-picturan daw ‘yung bata kasi nga matagal na raw dun pero sandaling-sandali lang ‘yun,” the father said.

Netizen Jasper Pascual posted a video of the baby crying inside the locked car. According to Pascual, the boy seemed to be crying for help because he was tapping the car’s window and crying loudly.

The video has since gone viral. Outraged netizens have accused the parents of child abuse for ‘abandoning’ the baby inside a locked car.

On Monday, Jenny Caluna, the baby’s mother, was interviewed by Raffy Tulfo on News5 and admitted their fault though she reiterated that they didn’t leave their child for too long.

Also on Monday, the DSWD said it is investigating the case.
