Female OFW Found Dead in Hotel Room in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; DFA Investigating

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was found dead in a hotel room in Saudi Arabia. The female OFW was found last Wednesday, August 15, but the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) only found out about it on Saturday.

In a statement, the DFA said the identity of the dead OFW has been established. However, this cannot be released as of yet pending notification of her next of kin.

The agency would only confirm that the victim was a single, 52-year old OFW who first came to Saudi Arabia in 2007. The circumstances of the discovery of her body have likewise been withheld.

“Initial inquiries made by the Consulate revealed that the deceased was single and 52 years of age at the time of her death. She first arrived in Saudi Arabia to work as a household service worker in 2007,” the agency said in a statement released on Saturday.

“We are saddened to learn about the passing under still unknown circumstances of one of our kababayan (fellow Filipino),” added Consul General Edgar Badajos.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. the DFA said it is cooperating with Saudi authorities in the investigation.
