Filipina Domestic Worker Sentenced to Jail for Stealing Employer’s Jewelry in Dubai

A Filipina maid accused of stealing jewelry and other items from her employer has been sentenced. A Dubai court sentenced the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) to one year in jail. She will be deported after serving her sentence.

The Dubai Court of First Instance was told that the maid stole several items from her Emirati sponsor which, in total, is worth Dh500,000. This includes jewelry (five rings, eight bracelets, two necklaces, earrings),12 perfume bottles, laptop, designer bag, cosmetics, three mobile phones and four watches according to Khaleej Times.

The report said the police were called to the employer’s Al Barsha residence on January 31, 2018 after the Emirati’s son told his parents he saw the maid steal his wife’s necklace. Upon searching her belongings, other the items were found.

The OFW was not arrested at the time. But on February 10, her employers called the Al Barsha Police again and requested for her arrest.

The Khaleej Times said the unnamed Filipina maid confessed to the crime upon police interrogation.

Her sentence is on appeal.
