Leo Palencia was driving his family home after a short visit to Edmonton on June 10 at 9:00 AM when the accident occurred. Palencia must have lost control of the vehicle because, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the white SUV “left the road surface and came to rest against the overpass.”

Photo of the accident shows the Palencias’ vehicle on the road barriers underneath an overpass.

The Filipino community of Lethbridge, Alberta is requesting for prayers for the family. They have also set up a GoFundMe to raise money for the Palencias.

“This money will be used towards the funeral and cost of sending the bodies to our home country (Philippines). And also for some more medical expenses that Ellen and her sons will need,” said the GoFundMe page.
