Globe telecom has complied with the gov’t order extending prepaid load validity. Now, TM and Globe prepaid load P300 & above are valid for 1 year!

Globe Telecom is the first telco to comply with the government order. Prepaid users who load P300 and above starting January 2018 will see that their load will now be effective for ONE YEAR. For prepaid loads below P300, it will initially be valid for six months only. But, this will change by the middle of this year.

According to the government order, ALL PREPAID LOAD should be valid for one year. However, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) understands the enormity of the task for telcos with their millions of subscribers to it has given them a six-month grace period to comply.

DICT officer-in-charge Eliseo Rio said that the six-month grace period is intended to give telcos the time to adjust their software, according to GMA News. But, if they fail to extend validity of ALL PREPAID LOAD after six months , they will be penalized.

“Mag-a-adjust [sila] sa kanilang software at ite-test pa ho nila, dapat i-test nila at ‘yun nga ho humihingi sila ng mga six months. Pero sabi namin sa kanila, sige six months, kung hindi niyo matupad, doon kayo mape-penalize,” said Eliseo Rio in an interview with GMA’s DZBB.

The DTI said the government initially wanted no expiration date for prepaid load but admitted their 1-year order is a compromise with the telcos.

Below is the official statement from Globe Telecom on the extension of prepaid load validity:

Globe Telecom will comply with the NTC-DICT-DTI Joint Memorandum Circular No. 05-12-2017 prescribing a one (1) year expiration period for prepaid load. Effective January 5, 2018, all Globe prepaid load with denomination of 300 pesos and above will carry a one (1) year expiration period.

Globe welcomes the latest directive of the DICT granting a six months extension on the implementation of the 1-year load expiration for denominations below 300 pesos.

Telecommunications as a business requires complex, advanced and real time systems that should be extensively tested, bearing in mind the impact to our 57 million prepaid customers, including transactions and voice, SMS, and data traffic that these systems support. The 6-months extension will give us ample time to prepare for the smooth and seamless implementation of the expiration change across all denominations.
