Hacked? BPI Accounts Debited But Bank Blames ‘Internal Data Error’

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has suspended all electronic transactions after a technical glitch. BPI account holders complained about losing money after being debited twice for previous transaction. Some BPI account holders even feared the system has been hacked.

But BPI assured it customers that what happened was merely an ‘internal date processing error’ and the system is now being fixed. Wrong postings on affected accounts are being corrected and the glitch is being investigated.

In an announcement on Facebook, the bank said it had identified the cause of the error and is doing everything to rectify the issue.
