Bato dela Rosa Admits He Wants to Run for Senator in 2019 #Halalan2019

Newly-appointed Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa wants to enter politics. In an interview on Wednesday, May 9, Dela Rosa admitted he wants to run for senator in the May 2019 elections. Or governor of his home province Davao del Sur.

There is no question that Bato dela Rosa is popular among the masses, and he knows this. His exposure as President Rodrigo Duterte’s go-to man in his anti-crime and anti-drugs campaign, Dela Rosa was a fixture in the news during his term as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). And, based on his popularity, a majority of the voting populace approve of his accomplishments.

In a recent Pulse Asia survey of 2019 ‘senatoriables’, Bato dela Rosa placed him within the Magic 12.

“Ako, Senado, kung ako’ng masusunod ah,” Dela Rosa said during an interview on ANC’s Headstart on Wednesday.

So, does this mean that we will see him in the administration’s ticket for May 2019? Not exactly. It would still all depend on the wishes of President Rodrigo Duterte. Loyal to his commander-in-chief and boss since their days in Davao, Bato said he would follow whatever Duterte wants him to do and wherever the president puts him. If it’s in politics, then he’d be very happy.

For now, Dela Rosa’s priority is cleaning up the Bureau of Corrections, a post that he was appointed to after his term as PNP chief ended.

But if the administration wants a winnable candidate for senator in 2019, they’d be wise to put Dela Rosa in their ticket. Likewise for Inday Sara Duterte. Because among the neophyte senator-wannabes, these two seem to be sure bets for the Magic 12!
