Voting 8-6, similar to the vote that ousted her on May 11, the Supreme Court denied Maria Lourdes Sereno’s motion for reconsideration and reverse its ruling on the quo warranto case. The justices stood by its decision in favor of the Solicitor General, saying Sereno’s motion lacked merit.

In her plea, Sereno reiterated her previous arguments that as chief justice, she can only be ousted by impeachment as provided by the Constitution. Moreover, the former chief justice insisted that her ouster was invalid because the 6 justices she earlier sought to inhibit were not impartial.
