The Letran community is requesting for prayer for Jerrick Balanza. The Letran Knights player has a brain tumor and will undergo brain surgery. Due to his condition, Balanza will miss the rest of the current NCAA basketball season.

Jerrick Balanza was diagnosed with a tumor in the temporal lobe of the brain, according to Fr. Vic Calvo of the Colegio de San Juan de Letran (CSJL). He is set to undergo brain surgery and won’t be back until November if the surgery is successful.

Averaging 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists, Balanza is an integral part of the Letran Knights’ campaign in NCAA Season 94. However, that is not important right now. What it more important is his health.

Aside from prayers, Fr. Vic Calvo told GMA News that Jerrick also needs financial help with his brain surgery, which will cost around P500,000. The cost was originally P800,000 but was reduced through the generosity of concerned people.

“Initially, P800,000 was the cost given to us but since the neuro-surgeon, Dr. Manuel Mariano, is from Letran and was recently awarded as an outstanding alumnus, it was cut to P500,000. Peter Cayco is helping because he knows people from the hospital,” said Fr. Vic Calvo.

CSJL is now accepting donations in behalf of Jerrick:
