Mocha Uson Gets UST Alumni Award, Netizens & Thomasians Protest

Controversial blogger and Duterte supporter Mocha Uson is trending again. Not for anything she wrote or said this time but for what she received – an AWARD! Yes, Mocha Uson received an award and it’s from the University of Santo Tomas (UST), her alma matter.

For the record, it is not really UST that gave Mocha Uson an award but its alumni association. Uson received the UST Thomasian Alumni Award for Government Service and, judging from the reaction posted on social media, many are not happy she received such a recognition.

“The UST Alumni Association imbued itself with unending disgrace by giving the Thomasian Award to Mocha Uson, the Fountain of Purest Lies,” wrote one netizen on Twitter.

“Last night, the Varsitarian, UST’s official paper, celebrated 90 years of excellence in campus journalism. Today, Mocha Uson, an enemy of the press, just received an award from UST. What a turn of events,” said another.

“Rappler, with all its quality and reliable journalism, had to suffer getting its license cancelled. Mocha Uson, the true Queen of fake news, manages to get an award. What’s happening?” said another tweet.

There are dozens more reaction of the same theme. You get the picture.

But Uson seems unfazed (as always) by all the criticism. On her Facebook page, the assistant secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) said it was a privilege to be bestowed such an honor, and offered it to her mother and the Filipino people.

“Maraming salamat po sa aking Alma Mater na UST sa pagbigay sa akin ng ‘Gawad Thomasian Alumni in Government Service’. Isa po itong karangalan. Inaalay ko po ang award na ito sa aking ina at sa ating mga ordinaryong Pilipino!”

Mocha Uson graduated from UST with a degree in medical technology in 1998. She attended medical school the following year but dropped out two years later to pursue a showbiz career.
