Diego Loyzaga is the son of Tourism Promotions Board Cesar Montano. This lead netizens to conclude that the actor and his friends were given special privileges to enter Boracay even though it is closed to tourists, local and foreign. As the controversy spread online, GMA News reported that Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) secretary Roy Cimatu has ordered an investigation into the matter.

But Diego said that the photo was taken two months ago and he only posted it as throwback for his friends who are in the photo with him.

“These photos were taken months ago. I only posted to show appreciation to my two friends who are in the photo with me,” said Loyzaga. “I meant no disrespect to Boracay, the people living there and its current state. I know whats going on there. We have land there. We have lots of friends who are owners of businesses etc in Boracay.”

And, indeed, it looks like he is telling the truth. A quick check of his Instagram revealed a photo in Boracay with his two friends posted on March 31!
