It’s Official: PHL to Host 2023 FIBA World Cup w/ Japan & Indonesia

The Philippines will be one of the hosts of the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The official announcement was made by FIBA a couple of hours ago. The Philippines will co-host the 2023 basketball World Cup together with Japan and Indonesia.

Finally, a victorious bid to host the event for the Philippines after losing to China in 2019. Manila first hosted the FIBA World cup in 1978.

“Philippines, Japan and Indonesia will host the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2023!” said the official announcement by FIBA on its Twitter account.

This is the first time that multiple countries are hosting the FIBA World Cup where thirty-two countries from around the globe will participate.

Most of the games will be held in Manila where several world-class venues are already being used for the local professional, amateur and collegiate tournaments – he Mall of Asia Arena, Philippine Arena, SMART Araneta Coliseum and PhilSports Arena.

Two other venues are in Japan and Indonesia – the Okinawa Arena and the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

This early, Filipino basketball fans are excited about the tournament. For a basketball-crazy nation like the Philippines, hosting the FIBA World Cup is like hosting the Olympics!
