Majority of Pinoys Against Same Sex Marriage in the Philippines: SWS Survey

If it were up to Filipinos, same sex marriage should not be legalized in the Philippines. This according to a Social Weather Station (SWS) survey which was released at the end of Pride Month.

According to the SWS survey, at least 61 percent of Filipinos would oppose a bill that would seek to legalize same sex marriage in the country. This is not surprising considering that, despite seemingly modern times, many Filipinos still have conservative beliefs.

It is also not surprising that religion was a factor in the survey results. According to the SWS, 74 percent Iglesia ni Cristo members and 70 percent from other Christian denominations were against same-sex marriage. Among Roman catholics and Muslims, 60 percent were opposed.
