According to news reports, Fr. Richmond Nilo had just started with the Sunday mass in Barangay Mayamot in Zaragoza when he was shot through the chapel’s window. The priest died on the spot.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has confirmed the death of Fr. Nilo.

“BREAKING: Another priest, Fr, Richmond Nilo of the Cabanatuan diocese, was shot dead by unidentified persons while celebrating Mass around 5pm Sunday inside a chapel in Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija. #cbcpnews,” the CBCP wrote on its social media page.

The shooting of Fr. Richmond Nilo is the second killing of a Catholic priest in as many months. In April, Fr. Mark Ventura was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman after Sunday mass in Cagayan. His death remains unsolved though a sizable reward has been put up by his family and the police.
