RIP: Aretha Franklin’s cause of death is pancreatic cancer. Funeral schedule to be announced later.

Aretha Franklin is dead. The Queen of Soul has died at the age of 76 days after being reported to be gravely ill. Aretha died surround by family and close friends, reports TMZ.

Aretha Franklin, whose extraordinary voice made such hits as Respect and Say a Little Prayer, died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She died at 9:50 AM on Thursday in her home in Detroit, according to news reports.

The memorial service and funeral for Aretha Franklin have not been announced at this time.

‘In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family,’ said the official statement of her family.

‘We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love and support we have received from close friends, supporters and fans all around the world. Thank you for your compassion and prayers,’ the statement added.

”We have felt your love for Aretha and it brings us comfort to know that her legacy will live on. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.’

Aretha announced her retirement from touring last year amid undisclosed health issues. There have been a number of health concerns in recent years but these were never disclosed publicly.

Her last public appearance was at Elton John’s AIDS Foundation gala in New York in November 2017.
